Plumbing and drainage

The modern plumbing systems and materials in your home will give many years of trouble-free service. However, if any problem should occur, it is wise to have an idea of where your water stopcocks and drainage manholes are located. Your Site Manager will have explained this to you during your demonstration meeting.

Stop valves

The local water company supplies water to your home. As the water supply enters your home, the flow is controlled by the main stop valve (usually found within the kitchen sink unit). If you have a leak, are changing a washer or are making alterations to your plumbing, you should turn off the water system using the internal stop valve.

Washing machines

When we install hot and cold water supply pipes for washing machines, the pipes end with simple lever operated valves (blue for cold, red for hot) to help you connect your appliance. Please ensure that the wastepipe cap is removed and that all connections are made prior to operating the machine.

Drips and leaks

If you see any water dripping from pipes, call a plumber and turn off the water as long term dripping will cause staining and damage. Leaks, however minor, should be contained immediately, especially in winter. Please refer to the Solutions Guide for more details.

Baths, sinks and showers

If water is taking longer to drain, you could have a blockage. Try clearing the waste outlet using a blockage cleaner. If this does not solve the problem, you should contact a plumber.

Drains

The small oval, metal covers in your garden/ communal area are the access points to unblock your drains.
