External finish of your home

Did you know that the external finish of your home is not only decorative but will also form protection? We have chosen materials which are as maintenance free as possible.

If you spend a short time on external maintenance, minor problems will not turn into major ones. The following list will act as a guide for essential jobs:

Timber finishes

Check paintwork on timber finishes. These areas will require homeowner maintenance.

Fences and gates

These are treated to resist decay but discolouration is normal. Maintenance may be required. Where applicable electronic gates will require service/check by homeowner.

Gutters and rainwater pipes

To enable the free flow of water, these should be kept free of debris.

Brickwork

As a consequence of drying out, a white deposit known as efflorescence can appear on walls. This is a normal chemical reaction and is caused by natural salts. It will eventually disappear or you can brush it away.

Vents

Check all heating vents and ventilation extracts are clean and not obstructed.

Paths & driveways

Paths and driveways will develop some minor settlement during the first 2 or 3 years. This is normal.

Garage surfaces

Concrete garage surfaces should be sealed or painted each year to avoid being affected by road salts.
