Parts of your home may be affected in severe weather conditions. The following guidelines will help you minimise potential damage:
Below zero
When the temperature outside falls below zero, it is essential that you run your central heating at a high setting, 24 hours a day. You should also run taps and showers at least twice a day. This should reduce the chance of burst pipes.
Very cold spells
All outside taps should be drained and well insulated over winter periods and hoses removed.
Internal temperature
Your central heating system is designed to reach an optimum temperature of 21ºC in the lounge, dining room, bathroom and en suite. Halls, landings and bedrooms are set to reach an optimum temperature of 18ºC. In extreme and freezing conditions, it is normal to notice a drop in room temperature.
Central heating
Additionally, make sure you never turn off the main electricity supply if your property is unattended during winter months. This would disable your central heating system which protects your home from freezing conditions.
