Welcome to Chilton

The County Durham town of Chilton is located a few miles east of Bishop Auckland and a short distance from Ferryhill. Originally a mining village called Chilton Buildings, it is now a residential suburb. Chilton offers great local amenities including a supermarket and post office, and its proximity to historic Durham means that you have a range of high street and independent stores to choose from.

Durham is just under 10 miles away and, as well as shopping, boasts great restaurants and bars, museums and galleries, plus the historic Cathedral and world famous University. Also close by is Hardwick Hall, a great destination for country walks.

There are a number of good schools in the area, including The Business and Enterprise College in nearby Ferryhill. Chilton is perfectly positioned for commuting, being just a stones throw from the A1(M) means easy access to York and Leeds to the South, and Newcastle and Edinburgh to the North. A regular bus service serves the area, linking the village with nearby towns as well as cities further afield such as Hartlepool and Darlington.
